Eclipse 3 to have RCP - "Rich Client Platform"

December 4 2003

So I was reading Knut's weblog, and he pointed to the fact that Eclipse 3 will have something called RCP, or the Rich Client Platform. From reading this, it sounds like its a lean version of Eclipse that would be used for applications, not something as heavy as an IDE.

Go here for an overview of the RCP and here for more reading.

Hmmmmm ... I really am starting to think that this is the foundation of this new "Rich Client" that we have heard IBM Lotus talk about. Maybe this is the plumbing that they are building on. I think we will have to wait until Lotusphere 04 next month for official news on this, but anyone want to make any unofficial statements ? :)
