For the first time in sixty years, the Fighting Illini of the University of Illinois have won 4 games without losing a game to start the season. That record brings rankings of #24 in the coaches poll and #22 in the AP poll. The last time that happened, the illini went 9 - 0 - 1 (a tie with Ohio State), won the Big Ten, won the Rose Bowl, and were considered National Champions by the media. While I don't think that the illini are headed New Orleans for the National Championship this year, I do think we have a special season upon us. Northwestern travels south this coming Saturday and let's hope the illini kick some major purple ass!

So I am posting this a bit late, as this was the second week of the College American Football season, but this is my favorite sport! I love watching, both in person and on television. My team of choice is the University of Illinois Fighting Illini ... and we have a killer schedule this year. After a winning season last year that ended with the Texas Bowl win, the Fighting Illini have the chance for a great season. 5 games at home to start the year, 3 of those being unranked teams. Only Penn State is considered a difficult road game, with our hardest games in October and November in Champaign. Last week, we started out slow but ended up winning 33 to 15 against Arkansas State. Today, we stomped the South Dakota State Jackrabbits 53 to 3. Great game! My apologizes if my Saturday tweets and posts get heavy, but if you want to block #illini ... feel free :-) As we say inside Memorial Stadium in the fall ... Oskee Wow Wow!!!! Go illini!!!!!
So not the bowl I was hoping for (so wished for a FL bowl), the Fighting Illini avenge a 3 - 9 record of 2009 with a 6 and 6 season in 2010 and a bowl game in Texas. If the team that beat Penn State at home and Northwestern at Wrigley shows up, they can do well against Baylor. If the team that lost to Minnesota and Fresno State shows up, sigh.
College Football returns to the ’Friendly Confines": Illini dominate Northwestern at the Chicago Cubs Wrigley FieldNovember 21 2010
As many of you know, or really, for those that have to put up with my tweets and Facebook posts about the University of Illinois Fighting Illini college (American) football, this weekend was a special treat. The Illini and the Northwestern Wildcats play every year in what is very much a rivalry game. This year, in a twist designed to just bring media attention to both schools, the game was played not at the home field of either team, but at Wrigley Field. Yes, the same Wrigley Field that the Chicago Cubs play 60 some odd baseball games every year. The game was already being hyped as a big game with ESPN Game Day coming to the game. And then the Big Ten ruled that the east end zone was too close to the famed Ivy wall for any use. Here is a picture: It turns out that the NCAA sent the Big Ten and both teams a letter. Turns out there needs to be ten yards between the endzone lines any wall. And since there was only one foot, the NCAA would not approve of the field for use. So if the
I would like to congratulate the New Orleans Saints on their Super Bowl 44 win. To the team, organization, fans, and city - enjoy and celebrate. Oh wait, it's Mardi Gras time - you are already celebrating. Just keep it going :-) A special congratulations to Pierre Thomas, the running back who scored two touchdowns. I got to see Pierre play 2 seasons with the University of Illinois Fighting Illini. He was overshadowed by Reshard Mendenhall at school, but man has he come on strong in the NFL. Pierre was not drafted. He earned that spot. And I think he is the best back on the Saints. Here is a great tribute video to both Pierre Thomas and Kelvin Hayden of the Colts, another former Illini. Sean Payton, head coach of the Saints, Saints special teams coach Greg McMahon, Saints assistant special teams coach Mike Mallory all served as assistant coaches at Illinois as well. Congrats to them.
4 season tickets to regular seats, 3 season tickets to Colonnades Club tickets, parking passes, and tickets to the Missouri vs Illini game in St. Louis on August 30th. Just waiting for the Michigan tickets to show up. I guess Sarah and I will be spending quite a few weekends in Champaign this fall.
