How IT Leadership Can Fundamentally Change or Affect the Culture of Your Company

October 27 2017

Mark Roden and I spoke at the October 13th IT Leadership Strategies event run by Camp IT. This session will challenge the tendency of IT leaders to focus on the technology. Meaningful organizational impact starts with changing the culture, not changing technology. In this session, we will discuss how to cast a vision for your organization, take a realistic inventory of where you are today and build an attainable implementation roadmap. We will draw from specific examples where culture change has impacted an organization more than any technology change (for better and for worse). Key topics will include productivity, efficiency, empowered talent, and the ‘cool’ factor in transforming how IT is perceived. Cloud Saturday 2016 - The Cloud and You - the ’as a service’ disruption you can’t ignore

June 29 2016

Here are my slides from Cloud Saturday 2016 - The Cloud and You - the ’as a service’ disruption you can’t ignore on April 30th, 2016. In any discussion about cloud, there are lots of buzzwords being thrown out by analysts and vendors. "Digital Transformation", "Democratization of IT", "Citizen Developer", and many more. Add in the 'as a Service" explosion and it is hard to make heads and tails over what will add value to your business. This session will cut through the hype and help bring a reality check to how the Cloud can help you. This session is for everyone: Administrator, Developer, IT Executive, or Business User. Plan on leaving with a deeper understanding and ideas of where you can take advantage. The Cloud and You - the ’as a service’ disruption you can’t ignore from John Head

The impact of current tech trends on XPages and SharePoint

The perception gap between clients and vendors with social business and cloud

September 21 2011

I have heard something over the past couple of days that I thought I would put out for discussion. I am hearing about a huge gap between what vendors think is the current state with social business and cloud and what customers believe are important to them right now. On one side we have the vendors who are changing everything to fit into the social business and/or cloud business models. From branding and marketing to strategy to how they align themselves internally as an organization. I get why. These are the buzzwords getting traction in the tech media space. The analysts, the advertising, the marketers. Social media is hot, let's build on top of it as social business. I am not arguing that this is not a hot topic in the marketplace. Same with cloud. It's the buzzword of the time. From the Microsoft commercials to the Google and Salesforce.com sales pitches. I hear many of our larger customers talking about the cloud. On the other side of that coin are the companies that sell licens

Lotusphere 2011: Domino Applications Coming to the IBM Cloud

January 31 2011

One of the major announcements from IBM this week is that in 2011, IBM will add support for hosted Domino applications to the LotusLive. Ed blogged about the announcement that was covered in the OGS and his session this afternoon. Let's cover some highlights: Public or Private Access 3 Licensing models: free developer or test deployments, bring-your-own-license or pay-as-you-go licensing for production deployments. Flexibility to have pay-as-you-go licensing in as little as hourly increments Amazon's Elasticompute will get updated with updated images, credit car payment options and improved activation IBM Lotus Domino Utility Server for LotusLive with support for the IBM Cloud and Amazon I think it is important to notice that the mention of hosted apps is on the IBM Cloud, not LotusLive servers. While Notes client will have single sign-on because of the PKI, it will be interesting to see that if web applications launch with SSO or we need to wait for a SAML implementation. I think t

LotusLive Notes - Why this is just the tip of the iceberg

August 16 2010

Last week, IBM announced LotusLive Notes, the cloud (hosted) version of IBM Notes & Domino. I didn't have time to blog about it last week, so here is a reply of what took place. First, Ed announced LotusLive Notes. You can also read the IBM press release for IBM LotusLive Notes and IBM Lotus Notes & Domino 8.5.2. Both are coming August 24th, 2010. Then, reporting from a blogger conference call, Tom, Peter, John Roling, and Nathan wrote their thoughts and impressions - and some questions - about the announcements. Nathan wrote about how this really is just the Lotus Domino we all know and love - and why tha tis a good thing. So I can share now, I have been participating in the LotusLive Notes beta. But to highlight how 'real Domino' this really is - I just added a new location to 8.5.2 CD5 and created a connection document to the LotusLive Notes servers. Everything else worked just like Notes. I added the LotusLive community to Sametime - and that was up and running immediate
